Öffentlicher Vortrag in englischer Sprache an der Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln (KHM)

In Zusammenarbeit mit SITU Studio, Brooklyn, New York hat Walid Raad aktuell das Projekt "Those that are near. Those that are far" für die Synagoge Stommeln realisiert. Die Eröffnung der Ausstellung ist am Mittwoch, 8. Juni 2016, 18 Uhr.
Walid Raad (*1967 in Chbanieh, Libanon, lebt und arbeitet in New York) spricht im Rahmen seiner Ausstellung für die Synagoge Stommeln und auf Einladung von Prof. Mischa Kuball (KHM) am Montag, dem 6. Juni (ab 19 Uhr), in der Aula der KHM über aktuelle Arbeiten und laufende Projekte.
Raad ist Künstler und Professor für Kunst an der Cooper Union New York. Sein Werk umfasst Fotografie wie auch Videokunst, Performance, Installationen und literarische Essays. Zu seinen Arbeiten zählt u.a. das Projekt "The Atlas Group", ein umfangreiches Werk, in dem er sich zwischen 1989 und 2004 der zeitgenössischen Geschichte des Libanon widmete, ein Land geprägt von Kriegt und Gewalt. Hier entwickelte er ganz eigene Ideen über die Beziehung zwischen dokumentarischer Fotografie, Archiv, Erinnerung und Geschichte.
Weitere laufende Projekte sind "Scratching on Things I Could Disavow" wie auch "Sweet Talk: Commissions (Beirut)". Zu seinen Publikationen gehören "Walkthrough", "The Truth Will Be Known When The Last Witness Is Dead", "My Neck Is Thinner Than A Hair", "Let’s Be Honest The Weather Helped".
Einzelausstellungen hatte Walid Raad u.a. im Louvre, Paris, im Museum of Modern Art, New York, in der Kunsthalle Zürich und in in der Whitechapel Art Gallery, London.
Seine Arbeiten wurden u. a. auf der Documenta 11 and 13, der Venedig Biennale, der Whitney Biennale, New York (2000 und 2002), der São Paulo Biennale, der Istanbul Biennale, der Homeworks I und III, Beirut, gezeigt.
Raad erhielt zahlreiche Preise, Stipendien und Auszeichnungen, u. a. den ICP Infinity Award (2016), den Hasselblad Award (2011), ein Guggenheim Fellowship (2009), den Alpert Award in Visual Arts (2007), den Deutsche Börse Photography Prize (2007), den Camera Austria Award (2005) sowie ein Rockefeller Fellowship (2003).
Raad ist Mitglied des "Home Workspace Programms" in Beirut und der "Gulf Labor Coalition".
