German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB) supports transformation initiative OA2020

Dr. Sandra Niemeyer Kommunikation und Marketing
Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB)

TIB signs Expression of Interest, stating its commitment to contribute to transformation to Open Access

The international initiative Open Access 2020 (http://oa2020.org/) – or OA2020 for short – actively promotes the conversion of the majority of existing journals from subscription to Open Access and the backing of new, enhanced forms of Open Access publishing. One of the conditions for achieving these goals involves the redeployment of acquisition funds to sustainable Open Access business models. It is also important that all of the stakeholders involved, including publishers and funding authorities, collaborate.

By signing the Expression of Interest (http://oa2020.org/mission/), TIB supports these and other objectives of the OA2020 initiative. “For TIB, the conversion to Open Access, and hence open access to academic publications, is an important objective that requires a careful, sustained approach. We would like to help shape this process, incorporating our perspectives and experience,” stated Uwe Rosemann, Director of TIB, explaining the library’s involvement.

Many major scientific organisations in Germany and throughout the world are among the signatories to the OA2020 initiative, launched by the Max Planck Society.
