Universität zu Köln

Five medical researchers, one physicist and one biologist included in the international ranking ‘Highly Cited Researchers 2020’ / indicator for excellent scientific achievements

The University of Cologne is once again represented in the international ranking ‘Highly Cited Researchers’, which is published annually by Clarivate Analytics based on data from the publication database ‘Web of Science’. Scientists on this list are among the world’s most influential one percent in their respective subjects – measured by the frequency with which their publications have been cited by their peers over the last ten years (2009–2019). Compared with five scientists from the University of Cologne who made it onto the list in 2019, the total number has grown to seven in 2020.
The seven most highly cited researchers from the University of Cologne in 2020 are
    - Prof. Dr. Yoichi Ando, Institute of Physics II; speaker of the Cluster of Excellence ‘ML4Q: Matter and Light for Quantum Computing’. Research areas: topological materials, nanofabrication
    - Prof. Dr. Jens C. Brüning, Polyclinic for Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Preventive Medicine at Cologne University Hospital; director of the Max-Planck-Institute for Metabolism Research; Research Group Leader at the Cluster of Excellence in Aging Research CECAD as well as at the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC). Research area: metabolism research
    - Prof. Dr. Oliver A. Cornely, infectiology; director of the Chair for translational Research at CECAD. Research areas: infection research, aging research
    - Prof. Dr. Michael Hallek, internal medicine; director of the Center for Integrated Oncology (CIO) and Research Group Leader at CMMC and CECAD. Research area: leukaemia
    - Prof. Dr. Florian Klein, virology; director of the Institute of Virology, research activities at CMMC. Research areas: development of virus-targeting antibodies, HIV infection
    - Prof. Dr. em. Joachim Klosterkötter, Specialist in psychiatry, psychotherapy and neurology. Research area: early detection and therapy of mental crises
    - Prof. Dr. Bart P.H.J. Thomma, biology; Alexander von Humboldt Professor at the Institute of Plant Sciences; Cluster of Excellence on Plant Sciences CEPLAS. Research areas: phytopathology, interaction of microbes with other organisms
In total, the international list of ‘Highly Cited Researchers’ includes approximately 6,400 scientists in 21 subject categories. The ranking places special emphasis on the influence of researchers across different subject categories.

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
