Der Agrarökonom Prof. Dr. Matin Qaim von der Universität Göttingen wird Präsident der International Association of Agricultural Economists (IAAE), der wissenschaftlichen Fachgesellschaft der Welt-Agrarökonomen. Qaim ist seit 2018 Mitglied im Vorstand der IAAE, seine Amtszeit beginnt am 31. August 2021 mit einer Periode als „President-Elect“, in der er unter anderem für die Organisation des alle drei Jahre stattfindenden IAAE-Kongresses verantwortlich ist. Ab 2024 übernimmt er dann für drei Jahre das eigentliche Amt des Präsidenten.
Gleichzeitig bestätigte die IAAE Prof. Dr. Stephan von Cramon-Taubadel von der Universität Göttingen im Amt des Generalsekretärs, das dieser seit 2015 innehat.
Die IAAE hat eine fast 100-jährige Tradition und Mitglieder auf allen Kontinenten. Qaim ist Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Welternährungswirtschaft an der Universität Göttingen. „Die Wahl zum IAAE-Präsidenten freut und ehrt mich, vor allem auch, weil sie die Wertschätzung meiner internationalen Kolleginnen und Kollegen ausdrückt“, so Qaim.
