Optimization of chip production through AI: Green light for the LOTSE joint project

Silvia Kapplusch Pressestelle
Technische Universität Dresden

The Chair of Databases at TUD Dresden University of Technology is now a partner in the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) joint research and development project LOTSE - an AI project to optimize chip production in Saxony.

The joint project between semiconductor manufacturer GlobalFoundries and the two medium-sized, Dresden-based companies, advanced data processing GmbH and FlowLogiX, as well as HTW Dresden and TU Dresden, aims to shorten production times, reduce process risks and perform virtual measurements in chip production with the help of artificial intelligence.

Research tasks as part of this project at the Chair of Databases include the modeling of production times and results, as well as the automated evaluation of error messages during production.

The European Union and the Free State of Saxony are funding the project with EUR 5.4M over a period of three years. Minister of State Martin Dulig presented the funding decision to the partners involved. "Microchips are the crude oil of the 21st century," he says. "Both SMEs and research in Saxony benefit from the investments made by semiconductor companies."
