TUM has moved up to the 28th spot in the QS World University Rankings. This makes it the best German university in the renowned ranking for a decade and further extends its lead.
The British university service provider QS Quacquarelli Symonds compiles its university quality rankings through surveys of academics and employers. It also assesses the number of citations of published research, the faculty-student ratio and the success of graduates. Further criteria include the share of international students and staff, international research collaborations and sustainability aspects.
TUM has improved by nine places as compared with 2023 and is now ranked 28th worldwide. Last year the university already moved up 12 places. As a result, it has now been the top-rated university in Germany for 10 consecutive years. It is the only German university among the top 50.
Top 25 position in engineering and natural sciences
In the most recent issue of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, in which QS ranks universities by subject areas and individual disciplines, TUM placed 19th in engineering and 23rd in natural sciences. In seven individual disciplines it is among the top 25, including 18th in physics/astronomy and 19th in electrical engineering. In another eight subjects, TUM is among the top 50.
Many other rankings frequently confirm the world-class quality of TUM in research, teaching and innovation. For example, it is among the top five in the Digital Leaders in Higher Education rankings. TUM is number 13 in the Global University Employability Rankings and is number one worldwide in the THE Impact Rankings regarding innovation.
