Annual ranking of ‘Highly Cited Researchers’ published as an indicator for outstanding research / University of Cologne represented by two biologists and four medical researchers

The University of Cologne is once again represented in the international ranking of ‘Highly Cited Researchers’, which is published annually by Clarivate Analytics based on information from the ‘Web of Science’ publication database. Researchers on this list are among the world’s most influential one percent of their field – measured by how often their academic publications have been cited by their peers over the past ten years (2014 to 2024).

This year, a total of six Cologne scientists made the list.

The most highly cited researchers from the University of Cologne are:

Professor Dr Oliver A. Cornely, Internal Medicine, Director of the Institute of Translational Research at the CECAD Cluster of Excellence in Aging Research, Academic Director of the Clinical Trials Centre Cologne. Main research areas: clinical infectiology, invasive fungal diseases, aging research

Professor Dr Barbara Eichhorst, Senior Physician, Department I of Internal Medicine and Center for Integrated Oncology (CIO). Main research area: chronic lymphocytic leukaemia

Professor Dr Christian Frezza, Biology, Alexander von Humboldt Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Principal Investigator at CECAD. Main research areas: metabolism, cancer, immunity, and tissue degeneration

Professor Dr Michael Hallek, Internal Medicine, Director of the Center for Integrated Oncology (CIO); Principal Investigator at the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC) and at CECAD. Main research area: chronic lymphocytic leukaemia

Professor Dr Jacques F. Meis, Internal Medicine, CECAD. Main research areas: translational research / transfer of basic research into promising clinical projects, invasive fungal diseases

Professor Dr Jane E. Parker, Biology, Associate Professor at the Institute of Genetics, Principal Investigator at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research, CEPLAS Cluster of Excellence on Plant Sciences. Main research areas: activation and control of plant immune reactions, interaction of plants and microbes

Professor Dr Joybrato Mukherjee, Rector of the University of Cologne, says: “I congratulate my colleagues on this outstanding achievement in terms of the visibility of their research. Their remarkable accomplishment highlights the research strength of our university.”

This year’s international list of ‘Highly Cited Researchers’ features approximately 6,900 researchers in total, including 367 from Germany. Of particular significance where the selection process is concerned is that their work should have an impact across various academic disciplines.

    Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
