IGB’s Dörthe Tetzlaff Becomes Honorary Fellow of the Geological Society of America

The Geological Society of America (GSA) has selected Prof. Dr. Dörthe Tetzlaff from the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) as Honorary Fellow. This fellowship honours international geoscientists who have distinguished themselves in geoscience investigations, promoting environmental awareness, linking science and society, or providing notable service to implementing public policy in natural resource managements.

Tetzlaff was selected for “her seminal contributions to understanding streamflow generation processes, including the role of subsurface heterogeneity on such systems. Dörthe Tetzlaff is one of top surface water hydrologists in the world. Her work on streamflow generation, isotopic tracing, and the role of plants in water transport through catchments has become the benchmark through which other studies have been measured and implemented. She is no doubt a ‘powerhouse’ in her discipline,” says David F. Boutt, Professor at the Department of Geosciences, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, who nominated Tetzlaff.

Dörthe Tetzlaff, who has just been elected to the class of Fellows 2018 of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) last summer, is pleased: “I am very proud to be elected an Honorary Fellow of the GSA. I sincerely thank my international colleagues for their efforts and the productive collaboration. I am deeply enthusiastic for the subject of ecohydrology – I am delighted my nominators acknowledge this in such prestigious way.”

    Congratulations, Professor Tetzlaff!
