Science News Video

"Science in Motion" is a standard for science news videos developed by Informationsdienst Wissenschaft (idw). It gives easier access to regular and professional use of moving images to science PR.

The project aims to develop a standard for science news videos with two goals in mind: first, to appeal to the audience with interest in science, and second, to ensure a high level of relevance, informative in-depth content and high production quality. "Standards" are common throughout the media world: news formats, magazine reports etc. all follow content, visual and staging standards.

Together with our partners, we have developed such a standard for production of ‘science news videos’, to establish video as a natural part of an effective communications strategy in science PR. To complement the new standard, the idw platform is also being expanded. From now on, the press offices of idw members will be able to share news videos along with press releases, events and experts.

    • for selection of suitable scientists
    • for selection of the format (news)
  • improve planning of the overall process (script etc.)
  • optimise use of scarce human resources
  • improve cost planning or support cost reduction
  • provide information on proven elements and define success criteria for science news videos
  • establish a successful format for research/science communication
  • increase acceptance of the format at a management level
