The three big trends in digital communication are mobile, video and social. Successful science PR must cater to these trends if it is to retain its presence on all channels in future and be perceived both by the professional public and those interested in science in the population as a whole.
2020 marks the 25th anniversary of Informationsdienst Wissenschaft (idw). It now operates the largest news platform for science and research in the German-speaking area. More than 1,000 press offices in the field of science are members. idw shares your news and events and help the media find suitable scientists by arranging contacts.
Informationsdienst Wissenschaft is developing its technical platform to future-proof its services. Videos are part of modern digital communication. As a result, the format has been added to the idw content system and distributed to the appropriate channels. Science news videos are now shown on the existing idw News page. We aim to significantly extend the reach in the medium term. One key way of increasing reach is to provide users with regular, high quality news videos. Other platforms that could be used to share science news videos will also be considered.
