Content transfer

Informationsdienst Wissenschaft, scientific information service distributes its contents via various channels. In addition, idw works together with selected content partners in order to optimise the outreach of news and events

Informationsdienst Wissenschaft (idw) (scientific information service) distributes the contents of its member institutions systematically, thereby increasing their outreach and feedback. idw also makes the contents available to selected content partners in addition to individual end consumers. They embed contents of idw-online – manually or automatically – into their own programme, such as in the news section of their websites.

After consulting the idw service team, content partners can share selected contents on their websites by using the following three methods:

  • occasional, manual sharing of individual news items originating from the idw subscription or from the RSS feed via copy & paste
  • regular, manual sharing of selected news items originating from the idw subscription or from the RSS feed
  • regular, automatic sharing of selected news items via XML interface or API

Ideally, the content partner embeds the shared content together with a title and a teaser text, and links this to the full view of the news item on idw-online.

For automatic sharing a sophisticated API interface is available to content partners. It offers numerous filter options for contents:

For press releases:
  • according to target groups (e.g. journalists, school children / teachers, students / scientists / business representatives)
  • according to the type of the press release (e.g. research findings / research projects / cooperative efforts / personnel announcements / miscellaneous scientific news / scientific publications / research or scientific transfer)
  • according to subject areas of the press release (e.g. individual areas such as biology, medicine, electrotechnology, mechanical engineering etc. or idw topic lists such as technology & industry, health, environment & life)
  • according to regions (e.g. Bavaria, Berlin or regional / supraregional)
  • according to language (German / English)
For scientific events:
  • according to target groups (e.g. journalists, school children / teachers, students / scientists / business representatives)
  • according to event type (e.g. information meeting, trade fair / event for children & adolescents / exhibition / conference, symposium / press event / seminar / workshop)
  • according to outreach range (e.g. local / regional / supraregional / international)
  • according to language (German / English)
Costs of using the technical interface:

Sharing contents from idw-online is generally free of charge. idw charges its content partners only a non-recurring setup fee for setting up a standard interface. Additional content filters can be implemented upon consultation and will be invoiced separately depending on the complexity.

In case of a large number of queries, it may make better sense to provide certain users or user groups with their own interface. idw will allocate the incurred costs to the appropriate content partner after consultation.

Note on the cooperation with idw:

As a service in return, the content partner makes a clear and distinct reference to the cooperation with Informationsdienst Wissenschaft (idw) on their websites, preferably directly on the news page (“With the support of Informationsdienst Wissenschaft (idw) / idw logo + link to as well as in their General Terms and Conditions.

idw e.V. reserves the right to refer its content partners by name on an appropriate subpage, including the logo and the link to the respective news page. In addition, idw reserves the right to expand this section with additional information, e.g. description of the target groups, of the shared content as well as the respective hit rates.

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
