Wissenschaftler und Besatzungsmitglieder bereiten an Bord des Forschungsschiffes POSEIDON ein SeitenSidescan-Sonar zum Einsatz vor. Das Gerät wird anschließend hinter dem Schiff geschleppt, sendet akustische Signale in Richtung Meeresboden und empfängt die vom Meeresboden zurück kommenden Signale. Daraus können präzise Karten des Meeresbodens erstellt werden.
