Make idw your preferred Google source

Informationsdienst Wissenschaft

Google has rolled out its "Preferred Sources" feature worldwide. It lets users decide for themselves which media outlets they want to see more often in Google Search's "Top Stories" – rather than relying solely on the algorithm.

For us at Informationsdienst Wissenschaft (idw), this is a great opportunity to make your science news even more visible. If you mark idw as a preferred source, our press releases on research and teaching will appear more prominently in your results for relevant search queries.

How it works – in just two clicks

  1. Click this link (you need to be signed in to your Google account).
  2. Tick the checkbox next to idw-online.de and confirm with "Done".

Please feel free to share this with colleagues – the more people choose idw as a preferred source, the more visible research news will become in Google Search.

For more background on the new Google feature, see the official announcement on the Google Blog.

Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
