Wenn Raupen oder andere Insekten an glucosinolathaltigen Pflanzen wie Brokkoli fressen, kommen die Glucosinolate in Kontakt mit dem Enzym Myrosinase. Dieses setzt die Senföle frei, die dann die hungrigen Insekten vertreiben.
