Bei einer Verletzung des Rückenmarks (schwarzer Spalt) werden die Fortsätze von Nervenzellen (grün) durchtrennt. Die Nervenzellen stellen ihr Wachstum ein und schwellen an. Wissenschaftler konnten nun zeigen, dass ein erneutes Wachstum dieser Zellen im Prinzip jedoch möglich ist.
