Science Videos

Science Videos are available on Informationsdienst Wissenschaft’s websites in two ways: as an attachment to a press release, or as a stand-alone medium on videos.idw-online.de.

A particularly informative genre is the science news videos in the "Science in Motion (Wissenschaft bewegt)" standard.

"Standards" are common in the media world: news formats, magazine reports, etc. follow content, visual and dramaturgical standards.

Informationsdienst Wissenschaft and our partners have developed such a standard for the production of science news videos. Like a press release, a science news video is supposed to deliver a current news item in a short form - only not as text, but with filmic means: A science news video is a "picturized press release".

Science news videos are thus close to the daily business of a press office and can establish themselves as a natural element of an effective communication strategy.

The standard

  • is aimed at a scientifically interested audience,
  • shall meet high standards in terms of relevance, information content and production quality,
  • facilitates the depiction of research in the moving image,
  • provides guidance for press offices and scientists,
  • defines criteria for the selection of topics (focus on research results), suitable scientists and the format (news),
  • improves the planning of the overall process (script, etc.),
  • optimizes the use of scarce human resources,
  • supports cost planning or reduction,
  • helps to increase the acceptance of moving images among scientists and management.

For the development of the standard and for the further development of its platform with regard to moving images, the Science Information Service was able to win competent partners: a pilot group of around 20 idw member press offices, as well as "LatestThinking" and Thilo Körkel, who contributes experience from the scientific publisher Springer Nature. Partner speakers also share their know-how in practical workshops for idw member press offices. The University of Trier provided media science support for the project.

Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
