The new book, which uses data from survey waves 6 and 7, focuses on how health and socio-economic status develop and interact over a person’s life course. The authors shed light on the impact of early-life circumstances, such as biological make-up, parental conditions and early education. Containing 38 individual studies, the book uncovers connections and causalities between these factors and digs into the questions:
How do childhood circumstances, labour market decisions and social networks influence our health in old age?
What consequences of different healthcare systems become visible when we are old?
What differences and commonalities can be observed between European countries?
Speakers from research and policy will discuss the new results and how they can be used for evidence-based policymaking:

About SHARE
SHARE is a multidisciplinary and cross-national panel survey. Every two years, it interviews people aged 50 and over about their social, economic and health situation. SHARE operates in 27 European countries and Israel. Since 2004, it has conducted 380,000 interviews with 140,000 people. The data can be accessed by researchers free of charge. SHARE has become a major provider of data for research and policy analyses. Among others, the European Commission, national governments, and international organizations such as the OECD, the WHO and the World Bank use SHARE data. In 2011, SHARE became the first-ever European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC). It is coordinated at the Munich Center for the Economics of Aging (MEA), a division of the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy.
