Over the past years, the wood-based panel manufacturers have continuously increased their production capacities and market shares. However, the cost increases for raw materials, resins and energy has become a crucial factor to maintain the competitiveness and market share within the European economy. Continuously increasing support measures for the use of wood for energy, more stringent requirements on production facilities and new 'horizontal' standards for measuring regulated substances in combination with more demanding formaldehyde emission standards in California and by furniture trade organisations additionally create huge challenges for the wood-based panel industries. The 6th European Wood-based Panel Symposium will be an excellent opportunity for producers and users of wood-based panels to update their know-how about economic and ecological demands and the progress in technology and application. The Symposium and its accompanying events will offer best possibilities to discuss with other technicians and experts and to exchange arguments and views.
