The workshop is dedicated to Harold Scheraga who will celebrate his 90th birthday this year. Dr. Scheraga pioneered the use of computers in chemistry and biology. His work inspired many of the research areas that are the topic of this meeting, ranging from biophysics to systems biology. In the spirit of Harold Scheraga's work, the workshop aims at bringing together researchers from physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science to acquaint each other with current trends in computational biophysics and systems biology, to explore avenues of cooperation, and to establish together a detailed understanding of cells at a molecular level.
This meeting is the fifth in a series of workshops of the same name organized in both Germany and the USA. Its main focus will be on:
- Protein folding and aggregations
- Multi-protein complexes and supramolecular assemblies
- Cellular environments and interaction networks
- Models, Algorithms and Computers
CBSB11 will explore new approaches for connecting research at these different levels of structure and complexity; and will evaluate progress in computational methods, algorithms, software and hardware in these target areas.
The workshop will act as a platform for in-depth discussion of cutting-edge research results obtained by international scientists at all levels in their careers. Invited talks will highlight recent algorithmic developments in and successful applications of high-performance computing to life sciences. A limited number of contributed talks and poster sessions will allow participants at an early stage of their career to discuss their ongoing research and to put it into the context of the workshop.
Hinweise zur Teilnahme:
We highly encourage applications by students and postdocs. Oral presentation slots are reserved for students/postdocs and will be assigned on a competitive basis. In addition, research can be presented in poster form.
We will waive conference fees for all accepted students. Five students/postdocs will receive "CBSB11 Outstanding Young Researcher" awards that include stipends of up to Euro 300 to cover transportation and lodging costs. The Five award winners are expected to give award talks.
Faculty and other interested researchers are also encouraged to apply and will have the opportunity to present posters.
The posters will be mounted on movable walls provided by the organizers. The maximum size of a single poster should not exceed 90cm widths and 145cm height (portrait format).
Participants presenting a talk or a poster are expected to contribute a small article about their work for the proceedings. Details about length, style, and formatting are available here.
Participants have to pay a registration fee of Euro 150, with the exception of invited speakers, students that are accepted for a poster or oral contribution, and members of the Forschungszentrum Jülich, of the German Research School for Simulation Sciences and of MTU. The registration fee includes coffee breaks, lunch, and a copy of the workshop proceedings. Information on how to pay the registration fee can be found here.
The registration deadline for applicants who want to present a poster or talk is June 15th. Notifications of poster/talk acceptances and awards will be sent out by June 22nd. The deadline for the submission of the proceeding article is July 15th, 2011.
Participants (except invited speakers) are responsible for booking their own hotel accommodation. A number of rooms has been reserved in hotels in Jülich. Further information can be found here.
