In recent years, water and energy challenges have become increasingly important to industry, regulators and users. These are often associated with new business and innovation opportunities.
The European project VicInAqua addresses such challenges and is currently using the associated innovation opportunities at Lake Victoria by developing integrative water and energy management technologies for fish farming and irrigation. Our project follows a holistic approach combining different technologies from the fields of water treatment, renewable energies, aquaculture and process monitoring, thus creating added value for the East African market and other regions with similar environments.

Questions and Answers
Started in June 2016, the VicInAqua is developing an efficient, flexible and robust system for wastewater treatment and reuse in Lake Victoria Basin, Africa. Eleven industrial, research and public organisations from Denmark, Germany, Italy, Kenya, Malta, Tanzania and Uganda conceived the VicInAqua novel solutions as a tailor-made response to the growing needs for sanitation and water and food supply of local inhabitants and industries, reducing stress on the sensitive ecosystems of Lake Victoria. The project is coordinated by Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences in Germany and has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 689427. As partner in the project, Steinbeis 2i GmbH supports the consortium with the dissemination and exploitation of project results, the administrative and financial management and the communication about project objectives and progresses.
