4th Indo-German Workshop on “Advances in Materials, Reactions & Separation Processes

An Indo-German workshop on “Advances in Materials, Reactions & Separation Processes” will be jointly organized by the Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Chennai, India and the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems, Magdeburg, Germany, during February 24 – 26, 2020 at Harnack-Haus, Conference Venue of the Max Planck Society in Berlin, Germany.

About the Workshop:
An Indo-German workshop on “Advances in Materials, Reactions & Separation Processes” will be jointly organized by the Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Chennai, India and the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems, Magdeburg, Germany, during February 24 – 26, 2020 at Harnack-Haus, Conference Venue of the Max Planck Society in Berlin, Germany. This is the 4th edition of the event. The 1st workshop was held at IIT Madras in February 2008, the 2nd workshop was held at Bad Herrenalb in February, 2012 and the 3rd workshop was held at IIT Guwahati in February 2016.

Structure and Schedule:
The workshop is planned for two and a half days. The number of participants will be limited to ~100, including faculty, scientists and senior doctoral students. Oral presentation will consist of a presentation of the latest progress by participants from both countries. A poster session will also be organized, for doctoral students to display their latest research. It is envisaged that the atmosphere will be informal. The main purpose of this meeting is to facilitate exchange of ideas between the speakers and the audience to generate a platform for possible future collaborations.

Objectives:
The objective of the workshop is to discuss on the latest development in the specified areas (materials, reactions and separations). In this workshop, experimental as well as theoretical (analytical and computational) work will be considered. This workshop will work as a platform to strengthen collaborative research activities between Indian and German colleagues and introduce senior doctoral students to the current research in the specified areas.

Topics:
Reaction and separation are two critical unit operations in chemical process industries. Unconverted reactants are to be separated from the final product along with other non-desirable side products. Often the unreacted components need to be recycled back to the reactor. Materials of construction of reactor and separator are specific for a specific operation, and hence a judicious selection of materials is needed. Therefore, a complete understanding on the processes occurring in these units are essential for safe and efficient operation of any plant.

The workshop will focus on the following areas:

Preparation and characterization of new materials with properties applicable in the area of reaction and separation processes (catalysts, adsorbents, etc.). Modeling and simulation of advanced materials, which includes polymers, liquid crystals, etc.
Reaction: at macro and micro scale, design and control of coupled rector-separator and other related systems.
Novel methods of separation and process intensification through integrated process technology. This includes process at the macro scale (membrane separation, membrane reactor, reactive distillation, etc.) as well as at the micro scale (micro reactor, microfluidic devices, etc.).
Population balance modeling of crystallization systems, biological systems, reaction systems and matter dispersion in atmospheric pollution modeling.

Hilfe
