New Research. New Technology. New Thinking.

The programme of the 2nd Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF2006) is now available online at www.esof2006.org. Participants can select from over 70 seminars, symposia and workshops taking place during July 15th-19th 2006 at the Forum am Deutschen Museum and the Deutsches Museum in Munich, Germany. Registration is possible through the official ESOF2006 website as well as on site during the conference.

Following the call for proposals and an extensive peer review process, ESOF2006 is proud to announce an interdisciplinary programme presenting science at the cutting-edge. Its pillars are seven themes, covering the whole spectrum from the natural sciences to the social sciences and the humanities. Their titles are: Dealing with Disasters, The Workings of Life, Combining Cultures, The Fabric of Science, Science Policy, Particles and Planets, Earth and Environment.

Key-note lectures by prominent scientists, including Nobel laureates Theodor Hänsch, Linda Buck, Robert Huber and Jean-Marie Lehn, as well as Erasmus awardee Sadik al-Azm, complement the programme and touch upon the most critical issues in the speakers' fields. These lectures are designed to endorse dialogue between key representatives of the sciences and the general public and will therefore be freely accessible.

ESOF2006 especially reaches out to young scientists, young journalists and students through an extensive Career Programme offering educational workshops and seminars on career development, as well as a fresh look at the current job market situation and the alternatives available. Furthermore, through the ESOF2006 Exhibition and the numerous networking and social events, young participants have the opportunity to meet representatives from academia and industry.

The ESOF2006 Outreach Activities, comprising of hands-on experiments, games and science cafés, will be jointly held with the Wissenschaftssommer 2006 (the German national science week) in Munich from July 15th to the 21st. Both events are free and open to the public and will take place at the Marienhof square, behind the historical town hall. The Wissenschaftssommer is organised annually by Wissenschaft im Dialog, an initiative of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft and other German science-funding organisations.

ESOF was successfully launched in Stockholm, Sweden in 2004. It attracted 1800 visitors from 67 countries. Founder of ESOF is the Organisation Euroscience, a grass-roots scientific organisation founded in 1997 with over 2,000 members in 40 countries. In its work ESOF2006 is supported by a number of committees. The Steering Committee is chaired by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Heckl, General Director of the Deutsches Museum in Munich. Host of the conference is Wissenschaft im Dialog. The initiators of ESOF2006 are the Robert Bosch Stiftung and Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft.
