Nanoparts that discover cancer cells and destroy them with a laser ray - vision or maybe reality quite soon? How micro and nano parts can cure diseases will be shown by about 20 experts at the forum "High-tech for Medical Devices" from November 15 to 17, 2006. The forum, which is organized by IVAM Microtechnology Network, will take place during the suppliers' fair Compamed in Düsseldorf, Germany. Compamed is embedded in Europe's most important medical technology fair Medica.
"Nano medication promises to become a milestone for medical technology. Nevertheless, the pharmaceutical industry is reluctant to join in", Dr. Volker Wagner from VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH regrets. In his presentation, Wagner shows the market development in the areas of drug delivery, in-vitro diagnostics, medical imaging and biomaterials. Menno Prins from Philips Research introduces magnetic biochips that are capable of detecting body fluids even in the smallest volumes of substances. State of the art technology and miniaturized medical devices are presented by Dr. Huw Allin Edwards from Oxford Innovation.
At the forum experts from USA, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Germany will illustrate advanced micro and nanotechnology developments in medical technology. About 20 companies and institutes will present their products at the IVAM joint pavilion "High-tech for Medical Devices", which is divided into the areas Nanomed, Advanced Materials, Microtechnology and Manufacturing.
