On July 13, following successful completion of an 11-month curriculum, 59 students from 22 different countries ceremoniously received their MBA diplomas at GISMA Business School in Hannover, Germany.
The degrees were jointly handed over by Dr. David Schoorman, Dean of GISMA Business School, and Dr. Richard Cosier, Dean of Purdue University's Krannert School of Management as GISMA's academic affiliate in the U.S. An honorific speech was then given by GISMA alumnus Dr. Stefan Traeger, now Managing Director at Carl Zeiss SMT Ltd. in England, who in 2006 had been honored with Karriere magazine's "Career of the Year" title.
GISMA's eighth full-time MBA class is not only its largest to date, but also the largest anywhere in Germany. Among the 59 young Masters of Business Administration from around the world who spent most of the past year studying together, 12 are from Germany, 11 from the U.S. and others from countries as diverse as El Salvador, Uzbekistan and South Africa.
The average age of this year's graduates is 28. They had gathered an average of five years of work experience, and all of them had earned at least one previous degree, with the range of disciplines being rather wide: economics and business (39%), engineering (23%), the humanities (10%), computer science (6%), the natural sciences (6%) and law (4%).
Their post-graduation careers will soon find them in managerial positions with companies all over the world. One example is Julia Gaydina (22), who followed up her studies of economics and translation back home in Russia by enrolling in GISMA's MBA program, and who is now entrusted with founding a German subsidiary for the RIF Corporation of Voronezh, Russia - a maker of cooling systems which employ state-of-the-art nano-technology, and a former employer of Julia's. In Julia's own words: "Even a year ago it was already clear that after earning my MBA I would be put in charge of setting up my company's very first subsidiary in Germany. Now I'm really looking forward to shouldering this considerable responsibility."
