A major step towards realizing the European Higher Education Area that offers numerous benefits to students
The project 'University of the Greater Region' aims to facilitate cross-border studying. The project, which is a collaborative undertaking involving the neighbouring regions of Saarland (Germany), Lorraine (France), Luxembourg, Wallonia (Belgium) and Rhineland Palatinate (Germany), aims to establish a common higher education area in which student mobility between participating universities will be the norm and in which the academic qualifications awarded will bear the seal of the so-called 'Greater Region' - an invaluable benefit in the European job market. The proposal for the project 'University of the Greater Region' was formally approved today by the steering committee of the EU Interreg programme - a move that takes the five participating universities from four European Union member states one step closer to their goal. The cross-border project will run for a period of three and a half years and in addition to Saarland University, involves the universities of Liege, Luxembourg, Nancy and Metz. The project has a budget of around six million euros and is supported by the EU, the regional governments and the partner universities themselves.
The participating universities and the Saarland Ministry for Economic Affairs and Science will be holding a press conference to present further details of the project in the near future.
