The curators of the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH) decided to expand the board of directors of the LZH at their last meeting in November. Prof. Dr.-Ing Ludger Overmeyer, head of the Institute of Transport and Automation Technology at the Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH), and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Volker Wesling, head of the Institute for Welding Technology and Separation Processes at the TU Clausthal are the new board members, both dedicated to guiding the non-university research institute.
Professor Overmeyer has a PhD in mechanical engineering and knows the LZH inside out. He was staff member and department head at the LZH from 1991 until 1997, when he started working for industrial companies. Since 2002, Professor Overmeyer has been head of his institute at the Leibniz Universität Hannover.
Professor Wesling studied in Clausthal where he also received his PhD. After working in the mechanical engineering industry for nine years, for example for the former Mannesmann group, he was appointed to a professorship at the TU Clausthal in 2002. Since September, 2009, he has also been the vice president of the university.
Through the appointment of both new board members, the LZH is emphasizing their engagement as an important partner in the Network of the Lower Saxony Technical University (NTH). Simultaneously, the engineering side of the research at the LZH is being strengthened through the two new, industry-experienced board members.
