VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH

Berlin, September 23, 2002 - Mr Bill Dolan, Head of Natural Language Processing for Microsoft, will address LangTech attendees at 10am, September 26 in a speech entitled 'Language Technology in Consumer Software'. Mr Dolan has earned wide international recognition through his revolutionary innovations in language technology, including automatic translation and question answering systems. He will outline Microsoft's initiatives and strategies in the field of language technology.

LangTech 2002 (http://www.lang-tech.org), to be held September 26 & 27 in the Hotel Schweizerhof, Berlin, is one of Europe's first high-level events devoted to the global language and speech technology market. For a growing number of businesses, speech and language technologies have become essential in areas such as CRM solutions, software localisation and content management strategies.

    Press Conference
At 10.45am, a press conference and Q&A session will immediately follow Mr Dolan's presentation. Dr Uwe Thomas, the State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and Professor Hans Uszkoreit, LangTech 2002 Programme Chair, will also be in attendance along with Bente Maegaard, Central Co-ordinator of Euromap Language Technologies. At the press conference, the LangTech exhibition area will officially be opened and exhibitors introduced.

Members of the press are cordially invited to apply for press conference access and full conference accreditation via organisation@lang-tech.org.

The LangTech programme will also feature international speakers from key market players such as SAP, Scansoft, Berlitz, DaimlerChrysler, Deutsche Telekom, Trados, Nuance and Telisma. A revolutionary aspect of the LangTech programme is the SME 'pitch' sessions which will feature a hand picked selection of some of the most dynamic concept ideas proposed for market, with representatives from across Europe, North America and Asia. On hand will be a number of leading venture capitalists to evaluate proposals and provide an essential overview of funding opportunities and processes in the current technologies marketplace.

LangTech is an EC supported initiative, through the involvement of Euromap Language Technologies. Bente Maegaard stated, 'We view LangTech as an important development in bringing together the various parties comprising the language technologies sector for high level interaction and discussion. The conference is particularly useful for smaller concept developers seeking a promotional platform and for corporations keen to understand why these technologies are value added propositions.'
