EY and ESMT announce cooperation: Introducing Executive MBA track “Managing Business Integrity”

Ulrike Schwarzberg Corporate Communications
European School of Management and Technology (ESMT)

Starting in October 2013 EY will support the new track “Managing Business Integrity” within the Executive MBA (EMBA) program at ESMT European School of Management and Technology in Berlin. The cooperation allows for a unique focus on integrity management, compliance, corporate governance, and forensics.

Within the framework of the collaboration, EY experts on white-collar crime, compliance, corporate governance, and business integrity will share their knowledge and experience in the curriculum of the EMBA degree program. The ESMT faculty with EY experts as guest lecturers will cooperate in developing and providing academic courses, thus complementing the existing EMBA curriculum at ESMT. They will combine research and grounded experience to provide a learning experience with great practical relevance.

With the start of the next class in October 2013, EMBA participants can choose to focus on business integrity in addition to the two existing tracks in innovation and technology management and international management. The new EMBA focus will prepare participating managers to effectively protect corporate assets from damage caused by misconduct and to use strategic compliance management, targeted control mechanisms, and incentive systems aligned with business ethics and integrity. Also new in this track within the degree program at ESMT is the investigation of fraud and corruption using forensic and criminological techniques.

The course content around forensic auditing, compliance, integrity management, and business ethics is being supported by EY’s Department of Fraud Investigation & Dispute Services (FIDS). The aim is to transfer the expertise related to all aspects of business integrity management, including corporate governance, compliance, and forensic fraud investigation into management education.

“Ethic and sustainable leadership is one future topic for the global economy. Together with ESMT we are creating a globally unique focus that covers all aspects of managing business integrity for the first time," says Dr. Stefan Heißner, lead partner at EY FIDS.

Prof. Zoltán Antal-Mokos, Dean of Degree Programs at ESMT, says, “Responsible leadership is a central theme that runs through our MBA programs. Striving to better prepare future leaders for doing business in challenging international environments, we will enrich the Executive MBA curriculum with this focus on business integrity.”

“The importance of ethics, governance, and compliance in management will continue to grow. With this additional track, ESMT is contributing to better practices among individuals and within organizations and filling a gap in Executive MBA programs in Germany by offering practically relevant education in business integrity management,” adds Prof. Jörg Rocholl, ESMT President and EY Chair in Governance and Compliance.
