The general assembly of acatech – German Academy of Science and Engineering – has chosen Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Wiegand, Executive Director of the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI and Professor of Imaging Communications at TU Berlin, as a new member. In this way, Wiegand counts as one of the 27 outstanding experts in various fields who will strengthen the acatech theme networks and projects, starting at the end of January.
acatech processes a wide spectrum of technical sciences and interdisciplinary matters. The members of acatech are incorporated to the Academy due to their outstanding scientific achievements and their great reputation. More than one billion devices use the compression technology for the transmission of videos that Wiegand co-developed.
acatech represents the German technical sciences on a national and international level. As a working Academy, acatech is an advisor in political and societal matters in technical scientific and technical political future questions. Furthermore, the Academy has set the objective of supporting the transfer of knowledge between science and economy and to support future talents in the area of technical science.
