Der mit 500.000 Euro dotierte Wissenschaftspreis unterstützt Forschungsarbeiten zu Infektionskrankheiten in Entwicklungsländern.
Das Institut de France in Paris wird Prof. Francine Ntoumi am 8. Juni mit dem renommierten Christophe-Mérieux-Preis auszeichnen. Der mit 500.000 Euro dotierte Wissenschaftspreis unterstützt Forschungsarbeiten zu Infektionskrankheiten in Entwicklungsländern. Die vielfach ausgezeichnete Malaria-Expertin arbeitet und forscht am Tropeninstitut des Universitätsklinikums Tübingen und an der Universität Ngouabi im Kongo. In Tübingen leitet sie eine Forschungsgruppe, ihre wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten sind eng mit den klinischen Malaria-Studien des Tübinger Institutes (Leitung Prof. Peter Kremsner) verknüpft.

Christophe Mérieux Prize
Each year the Institut de France’s Christophe and Rodolphe Mérieux Foundation awards a Scientific "Grand Prize" known as the “Christophe Mérieux Prize” to support research into INFECTIOUS DISEASES IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES.
This Prize is exclusively destined to researchers whose activity is permanently exercised in such countries.
The Christophe Mérieux Prize (500,000 Euros) will be allocated as follows:
• 100,000 Euros as personal reward to the Prize winner having the scientific responsibility of the team
• 400,000 Euros earmarked for the development of the team’s research.
The Christophe Mérieux Price 2016, is awarded to Professor Francine Ntoumi of the Faculty of Science and Techniques of Brazzaville (Congo) to encourage her infectious disease research work in Central Africa. The award ceremony will take place in Paris on June 8.
Biography
Francine Ntoumi is Congolese, currently Director of the Fondation Congolaise pour la Recherche Médicale and Senior Lecturer at University M. Ngouabi, Congo-Brazzaville. She has spent the past 25 years working on malaria and building health research capacities serving different institutions in Europe and Africa. Starting in 2008, her institution is recognized today as the best in the country and she had put the importance of local support to research in the agenda. In 2010, 2014 and 2015, Le Metropolis magazine made her one of Congo's top 50 women to make their mark on the country's history and in 2014 on the top list at the regional level. She is member of several scientific committees and international scientific networks in Africa and Europe. In 2012, she received the African Union Kwame Nkrumah Regional Scientific Award for women and in 2014, the Georg Forster Prize for her career in malaria research. Francine Ntoumi is working closely together with the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Tübingen (“Privatdozentin” at the Institute of Tropical Medicine).
