Scientist of the Ruhr-University Bochum gains prize for his research in the area of millimeter wave radar and ultrahigh frequency sensors
Today Prof. Dr. Nils Pohl gained at IHP – Innovations for High Performance Microelectronics the “ Wolfgang Mehr“ Fellowship Award 2017 for his research in the area of high frequency electronics. “It is a great honour for me and I appreciate the very good scientific and fair collaboration with IHP“ the scientist expressed his thanks for the award. His research focuses on multidimensionale radar systems within the SiGe technology. In his todays talk he gave an overview of circuits and systems for high-resolution sensing applications.
Prof. Dr. Nils Pohl studied Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and gained his PhD at the Ruhr-University Bochum. Since June 2016 he is head of the Chair for Integrated Systems (InSys) at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. At the same time he is Deputy Head of the Department of Integrated Circuits and Sensor Systems at Fraunhofer Institute for High Frequency Physics and Radar Technicques in Wachtberg. Born in Aachen, his reserach focuses on the areas of integrated circuits for frequency synthesis as well as for radar techniques.
The Fellowship Award is given since 2016 and named after the former scientific director of IHP Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Mehr, who died in 2015. Prof. Mehr was head of the institute from 2002 to 2014 with a sustainable strategy and led it to an international acknowleged and excellent research institute. These aspect of solution oriented determination is the fact which distinguishes the winner of the Fellowship Award. “The award is given to scientists, who are highly active researchers“ said Prof. Dr. Rolf Kraemer, Head of the Deapartment System Design at IHP.
