Global warming can only be stopped if CO2 emissions are reduced and energy systems are converted. Participants at the International Autumn School "Climate Policy and Energy System Transformation: New Opportunities and Challenges of the Consideration of Co-Benefits" from September 13 to 17, 2021 in Freiberg (Saxony) will learn how politics can contribute to this. Interested doctoral candidates and postdocs from all subject areas can apply now.
How can climate policy measures promote the transformation of energy systems and contribute to the goal of decarbonization worldwide? This question will be addressed at the International Autumn School "Climate Policy and Energy System Transformation," organized by Prof. Dr. Dirk Rübbelke, Professor of Environmental and Resource Economics at TU Bergakademie Freiberg together with Dr. Stefan Vögele from Forschungszentrum Jülich. The focus of the five-day advanced training and discussion event for doctoral students and postdocs is on political measures that are intended to induce transformation processes. Furthermore, the workshop deals with the wide range of effects of these measures.
The participating young researchers will analyze the effects that climate protection measures generate in addition to the primarily targeted climate protection effects, for example on biodiversity or energy security. "The co-effects associated with climate policy are of considerable importance for the attractiveness and functionality of climate protection measures," says Prof. Dirk Rübbelke. To analyze such effects, the participants will learn about interdisciplinary approaches from economics, philosophy, psychology, environmental and political sciences.
The school's faculty consists of internationally renowned scientists. The speakers include the Chair of the expert commission on the monitoring process "Energy of the Future" of the Federal Government of Germany, Prof. Dr. Andreas Löschel from the University of Münster, the environmental economist Prof. Dr. Alexander Golub from the American University Washington, and Prof. Dr. Karen Pittel, Head of the Ifo Center for Energy, Climate and Resources and Co-Chair of the WBGU - German Advisory Council on Global Change of the German Federal Government.
