Eva Echterhoff Media Relations
HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management

The Chancellor of HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management, Dr. Marcus Kölling, will be moving on to Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) in Potsdam to take up his new position as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on May 1, 2021. Dr. Marcus Kölling has held the office of Chancellor of HHL for three years fulfilling his responsibilities with total commitment. Through his office, he played a pivotal role in strengthening HHL’s economic base and promoting digital teaching quickly and efficiently, even in times of the pandemic.

“HHL is important for Germany as a business location, which can only defend its leading position in the world through successful innovations, startups and entrepreneurial drive. It has been an honor and a great pleasure to play my part in successfully supporting the work of the university.“ (Dr. Marcus Kölling)

During Dr. Kölling’s tenure, HHL has managed to further enhance its profile as one of the leading university-level business schools in Europe. Recent successes include improvements in the international Financial Times Ranking and being honored once again as an entrepreneurial university by Stifterverband. In its course programs, the Leipzig-based hotbed for managers focuses on a combination of business administration, entrepreneurial thinking and digitalization. In 2020, HHL enrolled more students than ever before.

“For HHL, of course it is a great loss to see Dr. Marcus Kölling go. On a personal level, however, I am delighted for him that his role at HPI will give him the opportunity to use his talents on a much broader basis. HPI has an excellent international reputation. For Marcus Kölling, this is the next logical step, after he already contributed significantly to growth and digitization at HHL.” (HHL Dean Prof. Dr. Stephan Stubner)

“With Dr. Kölling, HPI will gain a CFO with extensive experience as a chancellor in higher education and as a CFO in the private sector. Together with him, we will continue to drive HPI’s expansion and deepen its roots in the national and international academic landscape. I am very much looking forward to a good and successful collaboration,” says Prof. Christoph Meinel, Director and CEO of Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) in Potsdam.

Comments Dr. Marcus Kölling on his new position,
“Both HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management (HHL) and Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) produce very successful startups, including so-called ‘unicorns’. In my mind, developments in the field of digital engineering will create business models for the future that will have a significant impact on society and the economy. Therefore, I am very much looking forward to taking up my responsibilities as CFO at HPI.”
