A team led by Professor Thomas Weith at the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) received the Gerd Albers Award (Special Mention) on 10 November 2021 for the publication "Sustainable Land Management in a European Context". The prize is awarded by the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP).
Professor Thomas Weith, head of the working group "Co-Design of Change and Innovation (InnoChange)" at ZALF and lead author, accepted the award on 10 November during the annual ISOCARP conference in Doha, Qatar. "My team and I, we are all delighted with the international response and recognition. Many thanks to all contributors, especially to the team including Dr Jana Zscheischler, Sebastian Rogga, Nadin Gaasch, Tim Barkmann and Christian Strauß", Weith said after the award ceremony.
Developing sustainable land use together with all stakeholders
In the award-winning publication, the authors discuss innovative approaches to sustainable land management in Europe. So-called co-design processes are of particular importance. In this approach, science and practice work together from the very beginning in order to solve problems. The book presents the approaches that have emerged from this perspective. It is freely accessible as an open access publication.
At ZALF, the working group "InnoChange" develops integrative analytical concepts for processes of change and innovation in agricultural landscapes. In its research, the working group focuses on the actors of agricultural landscapes with their values, norms, interests and knowledge bases as well as their actions in the context of transformation, change and innovation processes.
The Gerd Albers Award is presented annually by the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP) for the best publications in the field of urban and regional development. One of the founders of ISOCARP was the German architect, urban and regional planner Gerd Albers.
