Global Environmental Psychology - the latest journal on PsychOpen GOLD

Bettina Leuchtenberg Kommunikation und Events
Leibniz-Institut für Psychologie (ZPID)

The Leibniz Institute for Psychology (ZPID) is pleased to announce the launch of a brand new journal on its PsychOpen GOLD platform: Global Environmental Psychology (GEP)

GEP publishes high quality theoretical and applied work with a psychological emphasis on the relationship between people and their environment. The scope, priorities, and policies for GEP were co-developed by researchers in the field. The journal is endorsed by both the International Association of People-Environment Studies (IAPS) and by the Environmental Psychology Section (Fachgruppe Umweltpsychologie) of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Psychologie (DGPs). Two priorities in particular distinguish GEP:

    1. its commitment to high standard, transparent, reproducible, and open science,
    2. its dedication to making the field of environmental psychology more diverse through collaborating with and giving a platform to currently underrepresented authors, populations, and methods.

Global Environmental Psychology fills a hitherto unfilled gap in the field of environmental psychology with many established researchers all the world over having already expressed their enthusiasm about the new journal:

"The journal's agenda to advance diversity (particularly in terms of expanding the geographic representation of authors and participants) and promote open science practices [...] will be widely welcomed by fellow environmental psychologists."
Dr. Kim-Pong Tam, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

"When the editors approached me with the journal idea some time ago, I was immediately convinced that this is filling a gap in the outlets for environmental psychology."
Prof. Christian Kloeckner, Norwegian University of Science and Technology

“Because the journal does not charge authors or readers, it will help to create a more open and fair distribution of scientific knowledge in environmental psychology."
    Prof. Wouter Poortinga, Cardiff University

"I think it’s an amazing addition to the publishing landscape."
Prof. Sabine Pahl, University of Vienna

"I encourage you all to publish in this journal so that your important findings are accessible to all!”
Prof. Linda Steg, University of Groningen

The PsychOpen GOLD Team at the Leibniz Institute for Psychology (ZPID) is excited to see Global Environmental Psychology come to life. Prof. Dr. Armin Günther, Managing Editor of the journal platform: “With GEP we now offer to the psychology community a high-quality publication outlet for another important field of research. GEP will also make an important scientific contribution to issues with high contemporary and pressing social significance. In addition, GEP complements and extends in an excellent way one of our other journals, Psychology of Human-Animal Intergroup Relations (PHAIR), which also recently started publishing on the PsychOpen GOLD platform”.

GEP thus invites and welcomes high-quality contributions, both as individual submissions or as part of one of our two first Special Issues:

    - Living with Environmental Change hosted by Dr. Charles Ogunbode and Dr. Susan Clayton
    - Responding to the Socio-Ecological Crisis: Collective Action and Activism hosted by Dr. Winnifred Louis, Dr. Sara Vestergren and Dr. Sebastian Bamberg.

Just as for all the journals published on PsychOpen GOLD, our newest journal GEP is also published as a Diamond Open Access journal, meaning free and open access for authors and readers.
