The Chair of African Legal Studies at the University of Bayreuth offers a series of events on human rights in Africa. Chair holder Prof. Dr. Thoko Kaime is also available for interviews on this topic.
The University of Bayreuth is known for its expertise in the field of African studies. The Cluster of Excellence "Africa Multiple" bundles and shapes various research areas in African Studies.
As part of the research project "When the Law Is not Enough - Intractable Problems of Human Rights" funded by the Cluster of Excellence, Prof. Dr. Thoko Kaime, Chair of African Legal Studies at the University of Bayreuth, is organising a discussion series entitled "Everyone's Human Rights". The events will take place from 26 October to 30 November. The debates will be held in English and will explore how to address human rights problems where laws have little or no effect. Experts will speak on the topics of child labour, human trafficking and the rights of LGBTIQ+ people in Africa.
Prof. Thoko Kaime is available for an English-language interview with media representatives from the field of human rights in Africa:
• What is the status quo of LGBTIQ+ rights in Africa?
• What legal improvements could be made for queer people in the near future?
• What is being done (legally) against human trafficking in Africa?
• How are children in Africa protected from child labour and child marriage? What are the differences between countries?
• Why is there such a big discrepancy between the legal framework and the incidence of human rights violations?
• Are the problems regarding human rights violations in Africa really unsolvable or what approaches could there be to close the gap between formal protection and the lived reality of people?
