Some of the world’s most influential plant science happens in Potsdam

Scientists at the Max-Planck-Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology rank among the world’s most cited researchers in 2022

The success and influence of scientists is measured in citations of their published research by other scientists. The more a scientist’s work is read, recognized and cited, the higher the impact a scientist has in his or her field of research. In a yearly report, the Clarivate Group lists the 0.1% of top cited researchers worldwide. This year, five researchers from the Max-Planck-Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology (MPI-MP) in Potsdam (Germany) are among those highly cited researchers.

The Clarivate report analyzes data from the Essential Science Indicators™ (ESI) database and categorizes scientists according to their research topics into 21 fields. Like in the previous years, Ralph Bock, one of the institute’s directors, was listed in the category “Cross Fields” as his research on organelle biology, biotechnology and molecular ecophysiology contributed to highly cited papers in different fields of research. Alisdair Fernie who investigates the central metabolism in plants and John Lunn were yet again among the most cited scientists in “Animal and Plant research”. They are in good company with a former director of the institute Mark Stitt, who just recently retired. Furthermore, Potsdam University Professor Bernd Müller-Röber, who leads an associated research group at the MPI-MP is among the distinguished.

In 2022, the list includes about 7200 highly cited researchers out from more than 70 countries who work in various fields from agricultural- to space science. Germany ranks 4th in the list with 369 highly cited researchers from which 67 are members of the Max Planck Society with its 81 Institutes all across the country and five Institutes abroad.

"We are very proud and delighted to see that our scientific contribution is so visible and well-recognized by other scientists," explains Ralph Bock. "We also congratulate our colleagues from the other Max Planck Institutes who are also listed as highly cited."

The Max Planck Institute for Molecular Plant Physiology is one of the world's leading facilities for plant research. We conduct basic research with a focus on studying plant physiology, genetics, epigenetics and plant-microbe interactions. The goal of our research is to comprehensively understand growth, development and the interactions of plants with their environment.

    Hilfe
