Make a wish: Constructor University students bring joy to children

This holiday season, students from Constructor University in Bremen, Germany organized and distributed over 300 presents during the Make a Wish campaign to support children in need. Together with child daycare centers in Bremen-Nord and the EPSYMO Association, the university students organized Christmas joy for countless families in the region.

Every year, Make a Wish is organized jointly by the Parents' Association for Psychomotor Development, EPSYMO e. V., Vegesack Marketing and the Rotaract Club of Constructor University. As tradition goes, children write wishes worth up to 20 euros on slips of paper, which are then hung on Christmas trees in public areas in Vegesack and on the campus of Constructor University. Anyone who is interested in contributing can take part in the campaign by picking a wish from the tree and purchasing the gift mentioned. Enthusiasm for the event is high and participants have to be quick: "Within a few days, all of the lists were taken down and all of the wishes were fulfilled," said Rizul Gupta, one of the student organizers of the event.

Magnetic building blocks, playmobiles, stuffed animals, and puzzles were requested by the children this year. "Handing out the gifts was like a beautiful trip down memory lane to when you yourself still believed in Santa Claus,” said student Av Snyder, who assisted the Santas handing out the gifts. They were portrayed very convincingly by Dean Arvid Kappas and Professor Alexander Lerchl from Constructor University. In addition, Andrés Matallana Bríñez, Pauline Désirée Gantzer, Janek Esche, Ari Platow and Thomas Sibon were involved in the wish list campaign.

“Organizing Make a Wish is such a bliss,” said Rizul Gupta, a Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology major at Constructor University and President of the Rotaract Club at the international university. “It is so rewarding to be a part of something that brings over 300 children so much joy. It was definitely worth all the time and effort of preparation and it could not have been possible without all of the volunteers.” This edition was the 14th Make a Wish campaign. In total, 3739 children's wishes have been granted throughout the years, making the holiday season all the more joyful for families in Bremen.
