Start-up Kanga Care from Uganda wins at the Young Entrepreneur Summit

Start-up Kanga Care wants to reduce the mortality rate of premature babies in African countries. How? With a baby carrier that is equipped with vitality measurement technology and allows parents to monitor the child's levels via an app. On March 18th, Kanga Care took part in the Young Entrepreneur Summit at Constructor University and won first place.

Due to the distance to the nearest health center, emergency care for mothers and newborns often cannot be provided quickly in many African countries. Therefore, mortality rates of premature babies are high. With their potentially life-saving innovation, Kanga Care, a start-up founded by students from Mbarara University, Uganda, won the first place prize at Constructor University's Young Entrepreneur Summit (YES) last weekend.

Second place went to OviCampus: an application students can use to organize events and offer each other goods and services. It was developed by students from the Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences and the Technical University of Cologne.

PragmaClin from Canada scored third place. The team developed a technology that enables people suffering from Parkinson's disease to be better cared for and monitored by doctors and relatives.

The three winning teams received a total of 4,500 Euros in prize money. 130 teams from all over the world had applied for the student start-up competition, which is organized exclusively by students and is one of the largest in Europe. “We were able to welcome the most diverse top 10 teams ever since the event has been established,” the main organizers Thea Mischel and Oscar Kirkwood said. “The intercultural exchange and seeing a multitude of ideas have been our favorite parts of the event,” they summarized their experience.

Ten teams from Malaysia, Canada, Poland, Uganda, England, Australia and Germany presented their business ideas at the finals on March 17th & 18th on the campus of Constructor University in Bremen. All finalists benefited from the support of their mentors, from networking and from the exchange of ideas and experiences.
