Minister President congratulates the MHH day care centre on its nomination for the German Day Care Centre Award 2023

A distinguished visitor to the campus children of the Hannover Medical School (MHH): Lower Saxony's Minister President Stephan Weil took the nomination of the MHH day care centre for the "German Day Care Centre Award 2023" as an opportunity to find out about the work of the day care centre. The campus children are among the ten finalists from 750 applications across Germany and are the only daycare centre in Lower Saxony still in the running. The prize will be awarded on 16 May in Berlin and is endowed with 25,000 euros.

"I am keeping my fingers crossed for the MHH day care centre to win the German Day Care Centre Award. Great educational work is being done here, the girls and boys play and learn together with lots of music, movement and experiments - and lots of fun. The fact that the campus children have made it to the last ten finalists is already a great success, but of course I hope that the German Daycare Award will now also come to the MHH in Lower Saxony," said Stephan Weil.

    MHH as an attractive employer

Good childcare is part of the concept of a family-friendly university, an award that the MHH has held since 2005. "As an attractive employer, the MHH wants to enable young parents to have childcare on campus that suits their schedules. In order to expand the offer and provide modern spatial accommodation for our offspring, we are already working out the financing plan for a new building," emphasised MHH President Professor Dr. Michael Manns.

The MHH day care centre Campuskinder offers employees of the MHH and, to some extent, external parents, all-day, year-round care for their children aged from eight weeks to 14 years. The educational concept of the day care centre includes bilingual education with an English-speaking specialist, early musical education with a music teacher, a balanced promotion of physical activity and early STEM education (mathematics, information technology, natural sciences and technology) from the crèche onwards. Always with the aim of strengthening the resilience of the girls and boys in the day care centre and enabling them to act sustainably with a view to the future. "Attentive interaction with one another and active participation contribute to the children's sense of well-being. And only in this way is learning and thus education possible," explained Martin Fulst, head of the MHH day care centre.
