TUD graduates in high demand: Five top 10 positions in current ranking published by WirtschaftsWoche magazine

Graduates of TU Dresden are highly coveted by private companies. The German business magazine WirtschaftsWoche has recently published the results of this year’s university rankings. Five of the nine surveyed subjects earned TU Dresden spots in the top 10.

Business Information Systems made it all the way to an impressive 3rd place, while Economics and Engineering as well as Electrical Engineering each took 5th. Also amongst the top 10 were Mechanical Engineering (8th place) and Computer Science (10th place). This represents an improvement in three of these subjects compared to last year.

Between February and March 2023, the business news magazine surveyed 500 human resources managers from companies with ten to over 1,000 employees to find out which universities they prefer to recruit from – and what they are looking for.

As in the previous year, TU Dresden was one of only a few universities to earn top marks in multiple categories. WirtschaftsWoche already described TU Dresden as a “rare beacon of German university education in the eastern half of the Republic” in 2022.

A strong economy is a decisive factor in the ranking. For many years now, a key reason for this success has therefore been the copious businesses that have settled in and around Dresden, particularly in the area of microelectronics. These also advance research and development, which in turn establishes ideal working conditions for recent graduates.

“I am pleased that as a leading university of technology, we have performed so well, in particular in subjects that unite economics and technology,” says Prof. Ursula M. Staudinger, Rector of TU Dresden. “This interdisciplinary approach is one of TUD’s strengths that is evidently appreciated by employers.”

Wirtschaftswoche publishes its ranking annually. Its focus on career opportunities for recent university graduates is a unique feature of this ranking. All branches are represented by the companies surveyed, of which 15.4 percent are from the healthcare sector, 7.8 percent from transport and logistics, and 6.2 percent from the automotive industry. Nearly every four out of five companies have at least 100 employees, and 27 percent even have over 1,000 members of staff.
