Longtime conductor of the orchestra and honorary citizen of the MHH died on 4 May
The Hannover Medical School (MHH) mourns the loss of its honorary citizen Volker Worlitzsch. The long-time conductor of the orchestra died on 4 May 2023 at the age of 79. “With his work as a conductor, Mr. Worlitzsch has shaped the cultural scene of the MHH for many years,” emphasizes Professor Dr. Michael Manns, “and has given us all wonderful sound experiences. With him, the MHH loses an honorary citizen who has always been committed to the university. Our sympathy goes out to his family.”
Volker Worlitzsch was concertmaster at the NDR Radiophilharmonie for almost 40 years. After his retirement in 2001 he took over as conductor of the orchestra of the MHH, with which he gave his last concert in March. The members of the MHH Orchestra were deeply affected by the news. “We want to express the memory of Volker Worlitzsch by carrying out the concerts we are currently working on in his honour as planned and with the planned programme,” says orchestra member Peter Ruschepaul. “We are sure that this would be exactly what he wants.” The first concert will take place on 2 July, 6 p.m. at the Stephansstift in Hanover, the second concert on July 3 starts at 8 p.m. in lecture hall F in the MHH.
