Press Release: On the trace of cybercrime

Michael Lindner Presse
Agentur für Innovation in der Cybersicherheit GmbH

    On the trace of cybercrime

Networking in the service of a secure future in cyberspace

Researchers, public authority representatives and students will meet for an international networking event in Halle (Saale) on September 12 and 13, 2023. The Agentur für Innovation in der Cybersicherheit GmbH (Cyberagentur) invites to the networking event following the international Human Factor in Cybercrime Conference (HFC-Conference). The very first Young Scholar Award will be presented.

The network event { CYBER : Crime || Security || Society } (https://www.cyberagentur.de/cyberresiliente-gesellschaft-rueckt-in-den-fokus-der...) on 12 and 13 September 2023 connects a wide variety of stakeholders across disciplines and generations from research, industry and public sector. The conference focusses on cybercrime research and will take place after the international HFC Conference (https://www.cyberagentur.de/2023/01/), which will also be hosted by the Cyberagentur in Halle (Saale) on September 10, 2023.

"For us, expert meeting implies that professionals from different disciplines and institutions can exchange ideas nationally and internationally” , explains Dr. Nicole Selzer, organizer and research officer in the unit Cyberresilient Society. “In addition, we can give young researchers and students insights into the current discussions on cybercrime.” The conference also provides a platform for interdisciplinary exchanges to promote innovative research approaches for upcoming calls for proposals that pertain to the topic Cyber-Resilient Society. In order to get a better understanding of the work of the Cyberagentur, it will also present itself as well as current projects during the conference.

The event will feature a high profile program. Competing ideas and positions will be presented and discussed in the "Breaking News Panels: Cybercrime and Cyberresilient Society - How to put knowledge into action?" by top national and international scientists as well as various representatives of nationwide security agencies, including: the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), State Criminal Police Offices (LKA), the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), the Central Office for Information Technology in the Security Sector (ZITiS), General Public Prosecutor's Office Bamberg, Central Office for Cybercrime, as well as European representatives from the Cyber Offender Prevention Squad (COPS) of the Dutch police and the UK Home Office.

The list of topics covered by the speakers is broad and offers plenty of material for discussions, for example on the impact of technological progress on the emergence of new forms of cybercrime, the motivations of cybercriminals, how societal resilience can be strengthened and how to put knowledge into action.

To start the conference off, Birgit Specht, Director of the Saxony-Anhalt State Criminal Police Office, and Thomas Wünsch, State Secretary and Head of Office at the Saxony-Anhalt Ministry of Science, Energy, Climate Protection and the Environment, will speak to the participants and address the challenges in the fight against cybercrime and the importance of networking science and society.

With the awarding of the Young Scholar Award, the Cyberagentur will honor a young scientist who participated in the poster competition. The expert jury will select the best poster of a scientific project on the topic of cybercrime or cybersecurity. “With this format, we have set ourselves the goal of promoting ambitious doctoral students and postdocs,” says Dr. Selzer.

While the submission period for the poster competition is already closed, those interested in the network event still have the opportunity to register for the free conference until August 31, 2023.

    Background: Cyberagentur
The Agentur für Innovation in der Cybersicherheit GmbH (Cyberagentur) was founded in 2020 as a fully in-house federal company under the joint leadership of the Federal Ministry of Defense and the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Home Affairs by the federal government with the goal of taking an application-strategy-related and interdepartmental view of internal and external security in the field of cybersecurity. Against this backdrop, the Cyberagentur's work is primarily aimed at institutionalizing the implementation of highly innovative projects that are associated with a high level of risk in terms of achieving their goals, but at the same time can have a very high disruptive potential if they are successful.
The Cyberagentur is part of the National Security Strategy of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The Cyberagentur is headed by Prof. Dr. Christian Hummert as Research Director and Managing Director and Daniel Mayer as Commercial Director.
