Their change of office is marked by continuity and reliability: on Friday, 1 September 2023, Prof. Dr. Konrad Wolf became the new President of Hochschule Bremen (HSB). The experienced science and university manager succeeds Prof. Dr. Karin Luckey, who helped shape and hallmark the second largest academic institution in the federal state of Bremen as its President for 15 years. Now she has retired.

Prof. Dr Konrad Wolf: ‘It is a great honour for me to have been elected to lead Hochschule Bremen in the coming years. As a cosmopolitan and diverse university of applied sciences, HSB is enormously important for Bremen and the surrounding region. Its almost 9,000 students in nearly than 70 practice-oriented and predominantly internationally oriented degree programmes are more urgently needed than ever in all areas of society and business. In addition, as a science-based innovation centre, HSB plays an important role in shaping a sustainable future. Going forward, it must be the goal of all of us to join together in strengthening and further advancing the university.’

    The person:

Konrad Wolf brings with him many years of diverse experience in science and university management, research and teaching as well as practical experience. After training as an electrician, the native Bavarian completed a degree in physics. This was followed by career stages at a Max Planck Institute in Munich, a Fraunhofer Institute in Dresden, and in industry. In 2001, he embarked on an academic career and became a professor at Hochschule Kaiserslautern, which he led as its president from 2009 to 2016. From 2016 to 2021, he was Minister for Science, Further Education and Culture in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The Academic Senate elected Konrad Wolf as President of HSB in January 2023; and on 22 August 2023, he was officially appointed to the post by Bremen's Science Senator Kathrin Moosdorf.

Prof. Dr. Karin Luckey: "Everything invested in HSB is returned to Bremen several times over."

‘I wish my colleague Konrad Wolf all the very best and a happy time in this most challenging but also highly rewarding office! The 15 years at HSB have been very gratifying and enriching for me," says Prof. Dr. Karin Luckey. "I want to express my thanks to all members of the university. My thanks also go to local politicians and all our partners in industry and society for their cooperation and support. My personal wish would be for all of you to remain loyal to HSB – to continue to support and promote the university. Everything you invest in HSB you get back several times over. Hochschule Bremen is a university for the common good, creating added value for our society in all manner of thematic areas.‘

    University Development Plan 2030

The Academic Senate at HSB adopted the Higher Education Development Plan (Hochschulentwicklungsplan – HEP 2030) shortly before the summer break. In doing so, the university defines a number of central objectives and strategically positions itself for the future. HEP 2030 forms the basis for the further consolidation and shaping of Hochschule Bremen. The subsequent implementation process will give all HSB members the opportunity to play an active role in shaping the university. The new President Konrad Wolf will actively move this process forward.
