The 8th Berlin Science Week ends with new visitor records - 35,000 visitors on site and almost 100,000 views of the festival homepage from 140 countries.
The 8th Berlin Science Week took place from 1 to November 2023. The festival programme comprised around 200 events, 500 speakers and over 180 participating organizations from 25 countries, including the embassies of Italy, Brazil, Israel, the UK, and Mexico. With 35,000 visitors in attendance, over 3,000 digital participants and almost 100,000 views of the festival website, the festival broke new records, positioned itself as one of the largest science festivals in the world and, above all, illustrated the enormous interest of the public in participating in science.
This year's highlight topics included the mobility and energy transition, freedom of expression in the age of AI, challenges and the future of work in science, advances in quantum technologies and nuclear fusion, international cooperation in science and science diplomacy.
The first-ever Berlin Science Week ART & SCIENCE FORUM at Holzmarkt 25 focused on the synergy between science and art. The program consisting of interactive guided tours, workshops, concerts, panel discussions, exhibitions and art performances attracted almost 12,000 visitors and proved to be a great success.
"The ART & SCIENCE FORUM enabled us to showcase science in all its exciting diversity and reach new audiences," says festival director Luiza Bengtsson. "We are delighted that Science Week has found another home in the capital and look forward to the opportunity to further expand the FORUM in the coming years."
Under the motto "Dare to Know: Our Narratives, Our Future", the Berlin Science Week CAMPUS took place for the fourth time at the Museum für Naturkunde. The CAMPUS program on 3 and 4 November comprised 45 events and 18 exhibitors. Almost 10,000 Berliners visited the campus.
