2,521 children were born at the MHH in 2023

Little Charlotte Amalia was the first baby in the new year

Welcome to life: 2,521 children were born in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hannover Medical School (MHH) in 2023. At 1,280, boys were slightly in the majority. Some families were even able to celebrate multiple births. In a total of 2,432 births, twins were born 87 times and triplets twice. The MHH is seeing a continuing trend towards natural birth, even in the case of twin pregnancies and where the baby is in a breech position. The MHH birthing team welcomes and supports this trend. The MHH's "New Year's baby" is little Charlotte Amalia. Her parents Elisabeth and Alexander had invited her to a New Year's Eve party at their home in Hanover. After all, the due date was still a week away, but Charlotte Amalia was in a hurry. At 3:01 a.m. on January 1, she was born: 51 centimetres tall, weighing 2780 grams and healthy. The delicate girl with the happy parents is the first baby to be born at the MHH in the new year.

    Everything under one roof

The MHH is one of the most popular maternity clinics in the Hanover region. This is not least due to the wide range of care offered by the MHH Women's Hospital. Here, parents-to-be will find everything under one roof - from care during pregnancy, obstetrics and the puerperium to accompanying parents and children through the first year of their offspring's life. The delivery room team is available to families at all times, not only during the birth, but also beforehand if they have any questions, concerns or uncertainties during pregnancy. After the birth, the breastfeeding and lactation advice team supports parents on the topic of "Feeding premature and newborn babies". The breastfeeding hotline and the numerous offers of the parenting school also provide further help and support after discharge from hospital.

    Competence for the youngest

As a level 1 perinatal center, the MHH is a center of the highest level of care. In practice, this means, for example, that the maternity ward, pediatric surgery and neonatal intensive care unit are linked together. At least as important as these spatial conditions, however, is the close cooperation between various specialists: midwives, doctors and nurses from obstetrics, gynecology, neonatology, pediatric surgery and anesthesia work closely together in the Perinatal Center. The focus is always on the family with their newborn baby and their start in life. Communication and teamwork are practiced four times a year through the multidisciplinary PROMPT training. PROMT stands for "Practical Obstetric Multi Professional Training". This special training for everyone who works in the delivery room continuously improves collaboration. Starting at the MHH, PROMPT training has now also found its way into other German maternity clinics.

Further information on the visiting rules on the mother and child ward can be found on the MHH website at https://www.mhh.de/patientenportal.
