Tanja Tetzlaff becomes Professor of Violoncello and Chamber Music at the University of the Arts Bremen

Hochschule für Künste Bremen

The University of the Arts (HfK) Bremen is strengthening their ranks. Starting April 1st, 2024, the renowned cellist Tanja Tetzlaff will become a professor at the HfK. Anyone interested in studying music at the start of the summer semester can apply until January 31st, 2024.

Tanja Tetzlaff has a wealth of experience as a soloist and chamber musician. She is familiar to audiences in Bremen through her engagement with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.
One of Tanja Tetzlaff's special qualities is her exceptionally broad repertoire. In addition to the major concertos of the standard cello repertoire, she is particularly fond of the cello concertos by Unsuk Chin, Witold Lutosławski, Jörg Widmann, Bernd Alois Zimmermann and the double concerto for cello & percussion by Rolf Wallin. Tetzlaff is an enthusiastic string quartet and piano trio player and regularly performs at chamber music festivals.

In addition to presenting classical music, it is also important to Tetzlaff to incorporate other art forms into her work and to address current events. The topic of sustainability is particularly important to her. For her commitment to bringing the issues of nature conservation and climate change into the concert hall, she was appointed a lifetime ambassador by the "Orchestra of Change".

The artistic openness, creative power and social role that the HfK Bremen plays as an art and music university have convinced the cellist, among other things, to become a professor in Bremen, where she will promote music education and imparting knowledge, thus shaping future generations of musicians:

"I am overjoyed to be taking on this wonderful task in my home town and look forward to building up an energetic and versatile cello class as well as supervising the chamber music department! I'm really looking forward to getting to know the students," said Tetzlaff.

Interested in studying music at the HfK Bremen? For the summer semester 2024, university transfer students and advanced students from the second semester onwards can currently apply. The application deadline is January 31st, 2024.

The HfK is an art university and a university of music at the same time. These parameters form the foundations of the university and create a framework that allows to strengthen artistic development among its students on a collective, as well as on the individual level.

The range of studies offered include Fine Arts, Integrated Design, Digital Media, as well as Musical Education for Artists and Teachers. Since 2020, the HfK also offers a post-graduate programme of study, an art- and science-based PhD programme with a special focus on Integrated Design and Digital Media.

The relationships among members of the university community, their multi-facetted collaborations, the close knit support provided to students by faculty and staff, as well as the plethora of regional and international cooperations help students grow into strong and distinct personalities. All of this produces works with high impacts on society at large.
