Leuphana University Lüneburg has expanded its range of cultural studies courses to include a Bachelor's degree for work in arts and cultural organizations. The new, internationally oriented English-language program combines classical and current social and cultural theory with central questions of contemporary cultural life. Whether it's an exhibition on climate change, the return of looted art from museums or the role of gender issues in the world of music, cultural studies is required to create the right conditions for dealing with issues that are sometimes highly controversial in our society.
The new course focuses on three main areas: cultural organization, analysis of social phenomena and art studies. Students first learn about scientific working methods and procedures and then apply them practically in a teaching/research project, usually in direct cooperation with a cultural organization. This also includes the ability to collect data, for example through surveys or interview studies, and to analyze it in order to answer a specific question.
The course prepares students for a career in the global, networked art, media and culture sector, but also enables them to continue with a Master's degree in Germany or abroad, which can then be followed by an international academic career. The new Bachelor's program "Cultural Studies: Organization, Society, and the Arts" will be offered for the first time in the coming winter semester. Applications are still possible until July 15, 2024.
