Excellent root canal treatments

Three Golden Hedström File awards go to MHH dental students

They are now newly qualified dentists and can not only be proud of their successful completion of their dental studies at Hannover Medical School (MHH), but also of a very special award: Dana Büsch, Anne Robke and Ramona Stölk have been honoured with the Golden Hedström File for their outstanding endodontic performance. This is awarded annually by the editors of the specialist journal "Endodontie" and honours particularly demanding and successful root canal treatments during dental studies.

Proud of excellent treatment by students and training

Professor Nadine Schlüter, Director of the MHH Clinic for Conservative Dentistry, Periodontology and Preventive Dentistry, presented the awards: "We are very proud of this award and congratulate our three former students on this special success." She praised not only the excellent work of the young dentists, but also their instructors. "It is also the merit of excellent and very dedicated training," said Professor Schlüter, recognising the commitment of the dentist Dr Peggy Herrmann, who trained them. All three students carried out the root canal treatments with her in the integrated treatment course. This course lasted two semesters and ended in July 2024. Dr Herrmann considered the results of the three root canal treatments to be worthy of an award and submitted them to the jury for assessment.

Three challenging root canal treatments mastered

"These were three very challenging root canal treatments that deserve recognition and support," praises Dr Herrmann. Dana Büsch's patient's tooth had previously been treated with a filling in the area of the root canal. A previous caries in this area worsened the prognosis of the tooth. The student was able to save the tooth after caries therapy and subsequent successful root canal treatment. Anne Robke's patient's tooth had already been crowned and was causing problems. With the help of her instructor and the use of an endodontic microscope, the student was able to find and treat the root canals clogged with calcium salts. Ramona Stölk's patient even had to have an existing root canal filling removed due to renewed inflammation. In doing so, she was able to uncover and treat a previously undiscovered fourth root canal. With the award of the Golden Hedström File, the three dentists not only received their certificate, but also a book prize. Both will find an honourable place in their first workplace.
