FIBAA is pleased to announce the adoption of its newly revised Assessment Guide for Certified Continuing Education Courses and Micro-Credentials. Approved during the 16th FAZK meeting, the updated guide will take effect on March 1, 2025. The revision reflects FIBAA’s commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in continuing education while adapting to evolving educational trends and quality assurance requirements.
The updated Assessment Guide introduces several key modifications to align with current developments in higher education. A major enhancement is the expanded scope, which now explicitly includes micro-credentials, ensuring the quality assurance of short-term learning experiences. This revision acknowledges the growing demand for flexible learning pathways and promotes comparability and permeability of training across different providers based on common quality standards.
The new guide also strengthens quality assurance for HEIs and other training providers, emphasizing the importance of Recognition of Prior Learning in supporting individual educational careers. Ensuring a structured approach to short-term learning, the revised framework enhances the recognition and value of micro-credentials in an evolving education landscape.
A stronger emphasis on digital teaching and learning has been incorporated, supporting state-of-the-art education across online, hybrid, blended, and onsite formats. Institutions must now demonstrate how they integrate digital learning methodologies to ensure high-quality instruction regardless of delivery mode.
Additionally, the guide addresses the challenges and opportunities of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. Institutions must outline how AI is integrated into study and examination regulations, particularly in areas such as plagiarism detection and research integrity. Meeting higher quality standards includes providing students with AI training to enhance their research competencies and enabling administrative staff to leverage AI-based tools for support services.
Furthermore, the revised guide places an increased focus on inclusion and equity, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4. Institutions must implement concrete measures to ensure equal access to education and foster inclusive learning environments. Additional quality criteria assess diversity training for teaching staff and the development of support structures for students in special circumstances, reinforcing a commitment to equitable education.
To enhance continuous improvement, FIBAA has introduced a new voluntary follow-up procedure. This allows institutions to report on the implementation of recommendations received during the certification process, further strengthening their commitment to quality development and ongoing enhancement of learning offerings.
